You control you. That simple yet powerful mantra was taught to me by the owner and my teacher Mark "Shah" Evans. That lesson is taught again and again as you learn the discipline of Muay Thai.
Hannah TerpstraAbout Mark
Mark “ShaH” Evans is a fighter, coach, and founder who turned pain into purpose. He built You Control You to teach discipline, responsibility, and self-mastery—not as ideas, but as daily practice.
A retired amateur boxer and Muay Thai fighter with more than 20 years in combat sports, Mark owns The Blast Muay Thai in Madison, Wisconsin. There, he trains students to find clarity, strength, and accountability in the gym and carry it into their lives.
He also hosts the You Control You podcast, where he explores growth, masculinity, family, and faith. His message is simple: no one is coming to save you. You control your effort, your choices, and your future.

You Control You
Frequently asked questions
To me, You Control You means accepting that I can’t control everything that happens around me, but I can control my effort, my attitude, my response, and the decisions I make next. That belief helped me turn pain into purpose, and it remains the foundation of everything I do through speaking, coaching, mentoring, and the podcast.
I speak about personal responsibility, discipline, resilience, emotional control, purpose, masculinity, fatherhood, relationships, faith, and rebuilding after adversity. I connect those ideas to real experiences from combat sports, business, youth mentorship, and my own life. My goal isn’t to give people temporary motivation—it’s to leave them with something honest and useful that they can carry forward.
Absolutely. I own The Blast Muay Thai in Madison, and our team trains out of Wolf Pack Combat Academy. I still work hands-on with beginners, everyday students, and amateur and professional fighters. For me, martial arts has never been only about fighting. It is one of the strongest tools I know for developing discipline, confidence, emotional control, resilience, and accountability.
The podcast is a place for honest conversations about growth, relationships, family, masculinity, discipline, business, faith, and the obstacles people overcome. I sit down with fighters, coaches, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and people from completely different walks of life to uncover the setbacks, choices, and lessons that helped shape who they became.
